Donation guidelines and acceptable items
Thank you for thinking of the kids cared for at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. While the holidays may look different this year due to COVID-19, everyone at the hospital is working hard to ensure we can continue to safely share the magic of the holiday season with patients and their families.
As the situation in Alberta continues to evolve, so do the health and safety measures. Please note that at this time, there are visitor restrictions in place at ACH. For everyone’s safety, the Foundation is not accepting in-person donations, including toys and gifts.
The generosity of our community has always been a special part of the holiday season at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, and your support would be appreciated in any of the following ways:
Donate to the Toy & Gift Fund
The Toy and Gift Fund helps to purchase items that help healing throughout the year. These items are used primarily for the purposes of recreation and therapeutic play and includes toys, games, art and craft supplies, play equipment and diversional activities to be used by Child Life staff in patient care programs and playrooms.
A charitable donation receipt for income tax purposes will be issued by ACHF for gifts of $20 or more. Donations can be made:
Gift cards make wonderful presents, especially for teens! They can also help the Child Life team purchase items to help facilitate play and art-based therapies, events and programs while kids are in the hospital. Suggested gift cards include Walmart, Indigo, Amazon, Apple, Google, shopping malls and toy stores.
Please mail cheques or gifts cards to:
Toy, book and gift donations
We encourage donors to purchase items from online retailers that have a delivery option to ship directly to the Alberta Children’s Hospital. In order to meet the COVID-19 safety protocols regarding gift distribution in time for the holidays, the deadline to receive gifts ordered online is on or before December 22, 2020.
Check out the current wish list of items for patients and families! Your generosity is very much appreciated. Please let us know by email at firstname.lastname@example.org if an order is being shipped so that we can thank you!
Brand new, unwrapped toys, books and gifts can be shipped to:
Host a virtual toy drive or holiday fundraiser
Set up a customized fundraising page, describe your initiative, add photos, and invite people to donate the value they would have donated if purchasing a toy! Choose the fundraiser type that suits you best. All funds raised will support Patient and Family Centred Care Programming at the hospital, which provides therapeutic programming that cares for kids’ spirits. From art and music therapy to fish tanks and playrooms, exceptional programs and enhancements make the Alberta Children’s Hospital a truly special and caring place.
Food and treats
ACH staff and volunteers cannot accept donated food products, dietary supplements, beverages, whether commercially prepared or homemade. This includes unopened food such as candy, baked goods, and food meant for display such as gingerbread houses.
Donations of knitted/crocheted items/handmade items
Due to current infection prevention and control policies, we are not able to accept any handmade items such as knitted or crocheted items (hats, mittens, blankets, etc.) or toys and crafts. Please consider sharing the love with another organization in need.
Used/previously owned items
Due to the hospital’s infection prevention and control guidelines and safety of the patients, we are not able to accept used items of any kind. We respectfully ask that you extend your generosity to another organization of your choice.
Auction and prize donations
The Foundation is fortunate to benefit from several exciting events throughout the year, many with an auction or prizing component. In order to help raise much needed funds for our hospital, we are looking for unique items, services or experiences to feature in one or more of these prestigious events. If your business or organization would like to donate an item, please call 403.955.8818 for more information.
The Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation supports the Alberta Children's Hospital Art Advisory Committee. As a panel of art specialists, this committee meets bi-monthly to review all artwork donation submissions. This committee is solely responsible for deciding where art will be placed within the hospital.
Each work will be chosen on its own merit. All artwork must be original, must be sensitive to the distress families may be feeling at the hospital and recognize cultural differences of those visiting the hospital. Signage on the back of the artwork is acceptable, however no plaques or labelling is permitted on the front of the artwork. At this time we do not accept murals due to concerns with infection control.
If you have a piece of art you would like to be considered, please complete the artwork donation form. If you require a tax receipt for your donation, a professional, third-party appraisal must be completed and submitted with your artwork donation form. For more information about donating artwork, please contact the Art Committee at email@example.com
