A message to our community

As the situation around COVID-19 evolves, and to ensure the safety of the children, families and care providers within the Alberta Children’s Hospital, our Foundation office will be operating remotely.

Questions can be directed to our temporary Reception line at 403.690.2457 or kids@achf.com. While working off-site, all Foundation staff may be contacted directly via email through their @achf.com addresses.

This FAQ page is intended to address questions that may arise during these special circumstances and will be updated on a regular basis. If you have a question that is not answered here, please feel free to email us at kids@achf.com.

What is happening at the hospital?

The safety of patients and staff is paramount at Alberta Children’s Hospital.

The resumption of all care and services is being done in a cautious, phased approach with rigorous adherence to all the public measures intended to reduce the risk of COVID-19 for both patients and staff.

This includes helping ensure those with symptoms stay home, maintaining physical distancing as much as possible while at the hospital and offsite, using appropriate PPE and the frequent cleaning of high-touch surfaces.

Children who attend the hospital must be accompanied by one adult only, and visitors will be screened at the entrance. Siblings and children under 14 years are not permitted at this time.

Staff, physicians and contractors must complete the on-line self-screening tool every day prior to arriving for their shift. Anyone deemed not fit to work is asked to stay home. This is a necessary step to keep patients and healthcare teams safe.

At the beginning of May, teams from across Alberta, including those caring for the youngest, most vulnerable patients at Alberta Children’s Hospital, began rebooking and performing non-urgent, scheduled day surgeries and procedures.

Ambulatory care teams are ramping up in-person visits, while continuing to provide virtual outpatient visits. This is to help ensure the protection of patients, staff and physicians, and minimize risk of transmission.

Outpatient care currently being provided includes support from physiotherapists, speech language pathologists, audiologists, social workers, and occupational therapists. One caregiver is permitted to accompany a child to their outpatient appointment.

We are currently permitting two caregivers at the bedside for inpatients and in the emergency department. Children 14 years and older are permitted to visit inpatients as one of the two caregivers at the bedside, provided they are accompanied by an adult.

 

Outdoor play areas are now open, however Emily's Backyard remains closed.

Is the Foundation office open?

To reduce non-essential traffic into the Alberta Children’s Hospital, the Foundation team will be working remotely. We will continue to operate off-site during our usual business hours Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

How do I make a donation?

We will continue to gratefully accept donations online at childrenshospital.ab.ca. Cheques made payable to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation can be mailed to the Foundation Office at:

As our office is operating remotely at this time, these donations will be processed in the timeliest manner possible. Your patience is appreciated during these extenuating circumstances.

If you have collected cash donations, please hold them in a safe place until we are able to begin accepting donations in person again. If you would like to be notified at that time, please email kids@achf.com.

We have some donations for the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Can I bring them in?

Our amazing community has been incredibly generous in recent months and our shelves are well-stocked with toys, books and thoughtful items for children and families at the hospital. To ensure the safety of patients and staff, we are pausing all gift-in-kind donations. If you have purchased or collected items to donate, please hold on to them until further notice. If you have not purchased gifts and would like to support children at the hospital, please consider making a donation online instead. If you would like to be informed when we begin accepting gift-in-kind donations again, please email Utah Hawley at uhawley@achf.com. We have also received several generous offers of equipment and food for hospital staff and patients. We would kindly ask you to email these offers to Alberta Health Services directly with the subject line ‘AHS COVID Offer’ to ahscovidoffer@albertahealthservices.ca.

Can you send me a physical copy of a tax receipt?

As our office is operating remotely at this time, we are not able to produce physical tax receipts. Once our office re-opens, receipts will be processed in the timeliest manner possible. Your patience is very much appreciated!
