Rotary/Flames House is a hospice for children located right next door to the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Thanks to incredible community support, Calgary is the first city in Alberta and only the sixth in North America to have a free-standing, community-based facility to support families of children facing progressive, chronic or life-limiting illness.
Rotary/Flames House will offer palliative and respite care for over 100 families each year.
Services include:
Respite Care: 24-hour care of children on a temporary basis up to 14 nights per stay, planned or urgent, to allow their families time for rest and renewal.
Transition Care: services for children who are ready to be discharged from the hospital but whose parents may need time to learn care routines or arrange services at home or in the community such as wheelchair access, nursing or physical therapy.
Symptom Management: active care to help children and families manage the adverse physical and emotional symptoms of illness progression.
End of Life Care: comprehensive services for both child and family during the last hours or days of a child’s life.
Construction of Rotary/Flames House was made possible by many kindhearted donors, including the Flames Foundation for Life, Rotary Clubs of Calgary and the Alberta Lottery Fund.
