CHAS, the Children's Hospital Aid Society, is one of the oldest philanthropic organizations in Alberta and has recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. This group of 75 volunteer women have contributed over $4,000,000.00 in the last 15 years alone to support programs and services for children and young adults through the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation and other agencies in the community. The 29th CHAS Annual Charity Golf Classic was held on August 3rd, 2011 at Bearspaw Country Club. It was a wonderful day full of laughter and sunshine. With the help of their many kind supporters, they raised a net amount of $197,000.00! Proceeds of this year's CHAS Charity Golf Classic will support brain health at the Alberta Children's Hospital. Depression in children and teens is a far too frequent occurrence and the toll it exacts can have devastating and life-long consequences. Medication is effective treatment for only about 35% of children and traditional therapies that are used for adults are often not suitable for children. With the expertise of Dr. Frank MacMaster, the new chair of Pediatric Mental Health, and the finanacial support provided by all those who contributed to the proceeds of this tournament, they are helping fund a much needed and exciting new treatment for our children and adolescents suffering from depression. CHAS has been a big part of our community helping make so many wonderful things happen at the Alberta Children's Hospital. Thank you! www.chascalgary.ca |
