Congratulations and Thank You Global!

Congratulations to our wonderful friends at Global Calgary for winning another prestigious award in recognition of their continuing efforts to help raise awareness and support for the Alberta Children’s Hospital. On June 24 in Las Vegas, Global was honoured with a Promax Gold Muse – considered the broadcast marketing equivalent to an “Oscar” – for producing the best Public Service Announcement (PSA) campaign in North America. The campaign focused on Brain Health for kids.

One in five children has a diagnosable psychiatric concern – making mental health the single largest health problem facing young people in our country today. At the same time, tens of thousands of children in Alberta suffer from brain-related health issues such as epilepsy, stroke, traumatic brain injury, autism and ADHD. Sadly, brain disorders can have serious life-long effects. Knowing that during childhood there is a window of opportunity in which brain plasticity can be optimized, potentially helping children’s brains adapt – even rewire and repair themselves if appropriate therapies are developed and applied - the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation has identified Brain Health as one of our highest priorities.

To generate public support and awareness for this crucial area – and to reduce the stigma that often surrounds illness affecting the brain – Global Calgary produced a three-part PSA campaign encompassing both mental and neurological illness under the umbrella of “Brain Health”. These spots were designed to be thought-provoking and educational. One PSA called “Paint” underscores the fact that everything about who children are and who they become is intricately connected to the brain. Another, called “Rounds”, draws attention to the fact that serious brain disorders affect children. And the third, “Party”, highlights how differently people often respond to brain disorders and illness, compared to physical injury or illness.

We are incredibly grateful for our 25-year partnership with Global Calgary. The team’s support for the kids and families who need the hospital has been both generous and of the highest quality. This is the fifth Promax award the station has won for its work to help the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.
