Innovative Research
You can help recruit southern Alberta’s first pediatric acute care immunologist.
Did you know?
- Children with immune disorders are unable to fight off germs and viruses as quickly or as regularly as children with healthy immune systems and can suffer chronic and/or debilitating illnesses that can be fatal.
- Children born with immune deficiencies take an average of 9 years to be properly diagnosed.
- Despite a crucial need, there are no acute-care pediatric immunologists in southern Alberta to help children affected with immune system deficiencies.
Community investment in a senior Pediatric Immunology research position could help:
- Recruit an expert in a fiercely competitive environment.
- Establish a pediatric immunology program that would benefit children across southern Alberta and beyond.
- Develop state-of-the-art testing for immune disorders and their causes in our hospital labs.
- Apply specialized knowledge to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of children with immune reactions and autoimmune disorders organ or bone marrow transplants.
- Engage in and support research that improves care and clinical outcome of children with immunologic disorders.
Children who would most benefit from the recruitment of a leading Pediatric Immunologist include those impacted by:
- severe immuno-deficiencies
- life-threatening drug reactions
- all types of transplants - including bone marrow, kidney, heart and liver
- patients with graft versus host disease after bone marrow transplantation
- autoimmune disorders of the skin, joints, blood, kidneys, intestines, lungs and brain – including rheumatoid arthritis, colitis, lupus and multiple sclerosis secondary immune deficiency caused by chronic illness or its treatment
