The Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) is such a near and dear cause to me because it has essentially been our second home for the past 4 years. Our son Parker was born critically ill and had his first (of many) life saving surgeries at just 2 days old. They saved his life that day and many times over in our journey.
To keep our story incredibly short, Parker was born with twisted and malrotated intestines that no one could've detected ahead of time. Shortly after, he was then diagnosed with a rare gastrointestinal syndrome called Megacystic Micro-Colon Intestinal Hypoparastalsis Syndrome (MMIHs). A tongue twister I know, but essentially it means that his intestines are close to failure and major intervention, daily care, meds and Total Parental Nutriion (TPN) aka a form of articial nutrition, is needed daily to keep him healthy and help him grow.
On top of his Gut issues, he also has severe Kidney issues and a heart murmur that has now been closed. His heart surgery has been his only "fixed" surgery and the rest (13 so far) have been urgent and unplanned. His complex and chronic issues are not something that will just "go away" and we don't know if he will ever be "all good" because there's no magic pill or treatment plan for someone with MMIHs. We don't know what will happen tomorrow nonetheless years from now, but we remain optimistic and hopeful.
That is why we need your help! By donating to the ACH, we can help fund the research and development that is constantly needed to help understand these rare diseases so that one day we can help our kids overcome them.
For parents who have had their kids cross paths with the ACH, you know exactly how amazing this facility and its people are. And for those who haven't, please trust me when I say we have one of the best if not the best, children's hospitals in the world! We need your help in not only keeping it that way, but to make it better for generations to come.
Thank you in advance and God Bless.
