Hockey Kids Helping Kids Score for Mental Health

Hundreds of young hockey players from across Calgary laced up and raised more than $57,000 through Hockey Kids Helping Kids, an exciting fundraising competition that will support child and adolescent mental health programs in our community.

The U11 Jr. Inferno Flames and the U13-3 Glenlake Hawks took home the top prizes for their efforts, scoring an opportunity to watch the Calgary Flames practice at the Scotiabank Saddledome and meet the players!

In keeping with Hockey Calgary’s core values of teamwork and respect, and to mark the Alberta Children’s Hospital’s 100-year milestone of hope and healing in the community in 2022, Hockey Calgary joined forces with the Flames Foundation for Hockey Kids Helping Kids to give teams an opportunity to stand with the growing number of young people who struggle with their mental health.

Young hockey players rallied on and off the ice to raise $32,622. The Calgary Flames Foundation generously contributed an additional $25,000, bringing the total to $57,622.

Those funds will support child and adolescent mental health programs via the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.

“We know that one in five Canadian kids struggle with mental health, and we are so grateful for the community support that’s allowing experts to help more kids who need it,” says Carmen Dressler, Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation Program Coordinator for Kids Helping Kids.

“Congratulations to the U11 Jr. Inferno Flames and the U13-3 Glenlake Hawks, and all the teams who came together for Hockey Kids Helping Kids this year. You are all amazing!”

The Kids Helping Kids program is an outlet for creative and caring young people who want to make a positive impact on the lives of families who rely on the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Through bake sales, or by becoming a Birthday Hero or school-wide events like bike-a-thons, Kids Helping Kids gives young people a chance to make a difference.
