KidSONO: Life-saving Diagnoses at the Bedside
With faster metabolisms, less blood and fluid reserves, and a higher sensitivity to changes in body temperature, children are more vulnerable than adults in a medical crisis. Time is of the essence when determining causes and treatments for a young person’s illness.
Specialists at the Alberta Children’s Hospital want to optimize point-of-care sonography — the use of ultrasound as a diagnostic tool at the bedside — to rapidly inform care. This state-of-the-art technology provides children and families with real-time diagnoses that increase accuracy and decrease the time it takes for treatments to begin.
Your support will make it possible to launch a new program called KidSONO and provide children with life-saving, radiation-free imaging at the bedside. This will bring immediate benefits for children in our community and help thousands of other families when the team shares its knowledge and expertise with children’s hospitals across Canada.
